Technology Advisory Committee Meeting – December 3, 2004
Attendees: Ian Jacobs, Bob McGowan, Ramiro DiazGranados, Joe Scarcella, Tony Coulson, Kurt Collins, Richard Botting, Owen Owens, Bill Takehara, Jason Reimer
A motion was made to change its meeting dates to the 2 nd and 4 th Friday's of the month for the rest of the academic year. The motion was made and seconded. The motion was passed unanimously.
The motion was made for the committee to continue to meet twice a month but with a week's notice the chair can cancel a meeting.
A demonstration was done on Adobe Acrobat standard version 6 and how it compiles comments and approvals of a distributed document. The Committee agreed to try out the process and to make this a pilot program for the campus. Names collected so far of those needing a copy: Bill Takehara, Owen Owens (Mac version), Michelle Behne, Mike Ross (Mac version), Ramiro DiazGranados, and Joe Scarcella. Because several members were missing, Michelle Behne will compile the list of those needing a copy.
A motion was made to purchase everyone on the TAC a copy of Adobe Acrobat standard version 6 or later to utilize and evaluate. The motion was seconded and passed. It was agreed to purchase 11 copies. Kurt Collins is to facilitate the order.
Voice over IP Report: An update was given and samples of the new phones were passed around. Implementation teams are being formed to aide in verifying information, distributing equipment and gathering additional information. March is the target for implementing the cutovers. TNS is also looking to purchase a block of 10,000 DID numbers which would include the use of 5 digit extensions and a new prefix.
VOIP is powered over the Ethernet but will require additional power backups e.g. UPS and generators. Otherwise, during extended power outages the system will go down.
The next meeting for the VOIP implementers for each department/division/college is on Dec. 15.
uPortal Report: Dick Botting is facilitating a uPortal demonstration on January 14.
Computer Shoot Out – Dell came to the last Tech Group meeting and gave an hour and a half presentation. Apple is going to come out in February and Gateway is scheduled to come out in January to give presentations to the Campus Tech Group.
Citrix follow-up – is finished. The servers have been distributed. Licensing is still being investigated.
