Technology Advisory Committee Meeting - December 1, 2006

Present:Joe Scarcella, Bill Takehara, Kurt Collins, Lorraine Frost, Donna Rane-Szotak, Lisa Bartle, Jim Monaghan, Tony Coulson, Dave Randolph, Ian Jacobs, Jill Vassilakos.

IRT VP Report

  • Lorraine reported that that beginning Summer 2007, students will have printing availability on Fridays.  PL-1109 will be open from 7-5:30 p.m. so students can print and use the computer
  • Lorraine and William Aguilar will be chairing a web page review committee.  Lorraine indicated they will use TAC for advice on issues pertaining to webpage, i.e standardization.  Donna suggested they should include navigation cohesiveness as part of the web page standardization.
  • Lorraine reported ATI task group is currently working on ensuring that the most frequently accessed web pages on campus are in compliance with executive order.  Joe suggested it may be helpful to have a member from the group make a presentation to TAC in the winter or spring quarter

COE Possible Laptop Initiative

  • Joe suggested that Kurt, Tony and Lorraine meet with Phillis Hensely and Debbie Stein in College of Education to discuss implementing the laptop initiative in the Ed.D program

IRT Vision and Mission Review
(Below are suggestions gleaned from TAC’s discussion on 12/1/07 on the technology strategic plan)

  • Bill suggested goals instead of guiding principles.  Using technology to be a paperless university would be an example of a goal or perhaps using technology to increase productivity.  Suggestion to use technology on how the university provides services.  For example, rather than going to meetings off campus, use applications such as Skype for videoconferences.
  • Kurt suggested a goal would be developing a online video of how to do university functions, i.e. how to fill out travel forms; develop training modules for Blackboard course development or for CMS classes.
  • Concepts that should be included in the technology strategic plan – streamlining of electronic information, e-books, SOTE’s, accessibility, security.  Donna suggested APS – access, productivity and security.  Access includes: ADA, commuter, hybrid-online courses, ebooks, repository of procedures; Productivity includes: Paperless, clearinghouse
