Technology Advisory Council Meeting Minutes - Friday, February
15, 2002
Attendees: Conrad Shayo, Ian Jacobs, Kim Cousins,
Kurt Collins, Joe Scarcella, Mike Ross, Jeff Hicks, Jim Monaghan,
Don McKenzie, Javier Torner, Carolyn Aldana, Bill Takehara
Sun Microsystems representative Brent Clous gave
a presentation on Sun's "Thin Client" and Citrix Server
solution. After the presentation the Committee discussed Sun's solution
for incorporating the Citrix Server solution here on campus. The
Committee decided to evaluate a Windows version of the Citrix Server/Thin
Client solution. Jeff Hicks to set up a demonstration at the next
meeting.
It was noted that one of the disadvantages of a
thin client solution was the limited compatibility with other systems
and that it ties the campus to that vendor.
The BATS order process was reviewed and because
of the questions created by the process a meeting to work out some
issues was set for immediately after the current meeting.
The BATS Technology Fair is scheduled for May 14,
2002 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm in the Students Events Center. A request
for suggested vendors was being sought. A suggestion was made to
showcase what IRT is doing for students now, i.e. ADA, etc. And
so it was agreed that the Library be asked to do a demo of the Library's
databases. All suggestions for demos are to go to Jeff Hicks' secretary
Gini Ashton at gashton@csusb.edu.
The TAC Student Survey results are to be passed
out and discussed at the next BATS meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:00 pm. The next meeting
will be on March 1, 2002 at 1:15 pm in PL-2107.
